Box Elder County belongs to Utah's First Judicial District with Cache and Rich counties. Its courthouse is the Brigham City District Court at 43 North Main Street, where felony criminal, civil, divorce and custody, probate, and guardianship cases for the county are filed and heard. The Clerk of the First District Court at Brigham City keeps those files. As throughout Utah, there is no separate county clerk for court records; the Box Elder County Clerk/Auditor is an elected office for elections and county business.

The county also runs the Box Elder County Justice Court a block north at 81 North Main Street, Suite 103. According to the county's own page, that court handles all criminal and traffic cases involving Class B and C misdemeanors and infractions, plus non-misdemeanor traffic offenses for juveniles 16 and older. Class A misdemeanors and all felonies go to the district court. Cases in the justice court start with either a citation or a summons and a charging document called an "Information."

Brigham City and Tremonton operate their own city justice courts for citations written by city police, so the issuing agency determines which clerk has the file. None of these courts offers a free public name search; district-court case summaries are on Xchange, the state's paid subscription portal.

What is available online

District-court case summaries for Box Elder County are searchable through Xchange, the state's paid subscription tool, for public documents filed since the court adopted the state's electronic case system; older files may exist only on paper at the courthouse. Sealed, expunged, and juvenile cases are excluded. Box Elder County Justice Court cases are also in Xchange, but the justice court itself has no public online case search. District-court counter hours were not posted on the pages we reviewed; the county justice court lists 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Which clerk has your record

In Utah, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Utah page.
