Editorial Policy

Last updated

These rules apply to every page on MyCourtFiles. They are enforced in the way pages are built, not just promised.

Official sources only

Search links point to courts, clerks, state agencies, and the federal judiciary. We link to statutes on the state legislature's own website. When a commercial service appears, it is labeled as sponsored and kept visually separate from official links.

No guessing

Every portal URL, fee, phone number, and address in our data must come from an official source. If we cannot confirm a detail, the field is left empty and the page tells you to contact the clerk instead. Pages carry a "verification in progress" label until every link on them has been checked.

Dated and re-checked

Each page shows a last updated date, which changes whenever the content changes, and a links verified date, which changes only when a person or our automated checker has confirmed that every official link still works and still points where we say it does. Automated checks run weekly and before every deployment. Links that fail are flagged for review.

We describe where records are and how to ask for them. We do not interpret the law for your situation, predict outcomes, or recommend a legal strategy. Where a topic has serious legal consequences (expungement, warrants), we say so and point to the statute and to the court's own resources.

Privacy of the people in court records

We never publish names, case numbers, or facts from actual court cases as examples. We do not compile information about individuals and we do not link to sites whose purpose is to do so.

Corrections

If you find an error, contact us. We correct factual mistakes as soon as they are confirmed and update the page's date. Material corrections are noted on the page.

Advertising and affiliates

Advertising is served by third-party networks and does not influence content. Affiliate links are disclosed at the top of any page that contains one and in the affiliate disclosure. Editorial decisions are made before monetization is considered.
