About MyCourtFiles

Last updated

MyCourtFiles is an independent guide to finding court records in the United States. It exists because the answer to "where is this court record?" is different in every state, often different in every county, and rarely written down in one place in plain English.

What we do

For each state we explain how the court system is organized, which official portals exist, what they cost, and how to request a copy in person or by mail. For the largest counties we go one level deeper: which clerk keeps which files, the courthouse address, and how far back the online index reaches.

What we do not do

  • We do not host, scrape, index, or store court records or any personal data. Every search happens on the court's own website.
  • We do not sell records, run background checks, or hold user accounts.
  • We do not give legal advice. If you need help with your own case, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.

How pages are built

Every page is generated from a structured data file that lists each portal's URL, cost, coverage, and the date we last confirmed it. When we cannot confirm a detail we say so on the page rather than guessing. Read the editorial policy for the full rules.

Funding

The site is supported by display advertising and, on some pages, affiliate links to commercial background-check services. Those links are always labeled, never influence which official portals we recommend, and are explained in our affiliate disclosure.
