Clark County is Nevada's largest county by far and runs the state's most complete online court records system. The Clerk of the Eighth Judicial District Court — a separately elected office, not the Clark County Clerk — keeps every district-court file: felonies, civil suits over $15,000, divorce and custody, probate, and juvenile cases. Its records go back to 1909, with the searchable online index generally covering cases from about 1990 forward.
The Clark County Clerk is a different office entirely. In Nevada, the county clerk is usually also the clerk of the district court, but Clark County split the roles: the county clerk handles marriage licenses, business licenses, and county records, while the elected Clerk of the Court runs district-court case records. There is no separate "county court" in Nevada, so smaller civil, probate, and misdemeanor matters that some states route to a county-level court are handled here by the Las Vegas Justice Court and the district court itself, not by the county clerk.
Misdemeanors, evictions, small claims, and civil cases at or under $15,000 within Las Vegas Township go to the Las Vegas Justice Court, which runs its own separate case search. Tickets and ordinance violations written by city police departments (Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Mesquite) go to that city's own municipal court, none of which are covered by the county's district-court or justice-court portals.

What is available online
The district court's online case index generally covers 1990 to the present; document images are most complete for cases filed electronically in the last decade or so. Records from 1909 to 1990 exist but are not fully searchable online — request a records search from the Clerk's Records Division for older files. The Las Vegas Justice Court's case search covers only Las Vegas Township; other Clark County townships run separate systems.
Which clerk has your record
In Nevada, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Nevada page.
| Court | Typical cases | Records kept by |
|---|---|---|
| District Courts | Felony criminal cases; Civil cases over $15,000; Divorce, custody, and other family cases | District Court Clerk — the county clerk acting ex officio in most counties, or a separately elected or appointed clerk of court where the district has created that office |
| Justice Courts | Misdemeanor crimes and traffic offenses; Civil cases and small claims up to $15,000; Evictions | Justice Court Clerk for that township or precinct |
| Municipal Courts | City ordinance violations; Misdemeanor traffic tickets issued within city limits; Minor criminal citations by city police | Municipal court clerk for that city |

Fees
| Item | Typical cost in Nevada |
|---|---|
| Plain copy | $0.50 per page (NRS 19.013) |
| Certified copy | $3.00 per certificate, in addition to the per-page copy fee (NRS 19.013) |
These are the statutory fees for district court clerks statewide. Justice courts and municipal courts set their own copy and certification fees by local rule, so confirm the amount with that specific court before sending payment.

Sealed and restricted records
Nevada court records are presumed open, but the following are removed from public search:
The Nevada guide lists every category of sealed and restricted record, and our guide to expunging or sealing a criminal record explains how to remove one from public view.
Frequently asked questions
Are Clark County court records online?
Yes. The Eighth Judicial District Court publishes a free online case search covering district-court civil, criminal, family, and probate cases, and the Las Vegas Justice Court runs a separate free search for its own misdemeanor, small-claims, and eviction cases.
Is the Clark County Clerk the same office as the district court clerk?
No. Clark County is one of the few Nevada counties where these are separate offices. The elected Clerk of the Court keeps district-court case records; the Clark County Clerk handles marriage licenses, business licenses, and other county functions, not court files.
Where do I look up a Las Vegas traffic ticket?
It depends on who issued it. Tickets from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police (unincorporated areas) or a county constable generally go to the Las Vegas Justice Court; tickets from a city police department go to that city's own municipal court.
How do I get a certified copy of a Clark County divorce decree?
Divorces are filed in district court (Family Division), so request a certified copy from the Clerk of the Eighth Judicial District Court, either through the records request email or in person at the Regional Justice Center. Certification costs $3.00 per document plus the per-page copy fee.
How far back do Clark County's online court records go?
The clerk's office holds records dating to 1909, but the searchable online index generally covers cases from about 1990 forward. Older files require a manual records-search request from the Clerk's Records Division.
