Nye County is Nevada's largest county by land area, and its court system is split between two towns. The county seat is Tonopah, but the Fifth Judicial District Court — which serves Nye and neighboring Esmeralda County with two departments — sits in Pahrump, where the great majority of the county's population lives. Unlike most rural Nevada counties, Nye does not route court files through the elected county clerk. The Nye County Clerk's own website states plainly that it is not the Clerk of the District Court and does not handle any court matters. Instead, a separate Clerk of the Court / Court Administrator for the Fifth Judicial District keeps every felony, civil, divorce, custody, and probate file, from an office at 1520 E. Basin Avenue in Pahrump.
The district court does not offer a public online case search. Questions about a district-court file — hearing dates, copies, filing status — go to the Clerk of the Court by phone or email, or in person at the Pahrump office. E-filing is available to litigants through the statewide eFiling Nevada portal, but that system is for submitting documents, not for public research.
Misdemeanors, traffic, evictions, small claims, and civil cases up to $15,000 are divided among three township justice courts: Pahrump Justice Court (Departments A and B, the busiest court in the county), Tonopah Justice Court, and Beatty Justice Court. Pahrump Justice Court is the one Nye County court with online case lookup, through the Nevada courts' eServices portal shared by a number of justice and municipal courts around the state.

What is available online
The Fifth Judicial District Court has no public online case index; district-court case status, hearing dates, and copies must be requested from the Clerk of the Court by phone, email, or in person. Among the justice courts, only Pahrump Justice Court offers online case lookup, through the Nevada courts eServices portal (search by name or case number for case details, hearing dates, and balances). Tonopah and Beatty Justice Courts have no online case search, though all three justice courts accept online fine payments through nCourt. Parties can e-file district-court and Pahrump Justice Court documents through the statewide eFiling Nevada system, which is a filing tool rather than a public search.
Which clerk has your record
In Nevada, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Nevada page.
| Court | Typical cases | Records kept by |
|---|---|---|
| District Courts | Felony criminal cases; Civil cases over $15,000; Divorce, custody, and other family cases | District Court Clerk — the county clerk acting ex officio in most counties, or a separately elected or appointed clerk of court where the district has created that office |
| Justice Courts | Misdemeanor crimes and traffic offenses; Civil cases and small claims up to $15,000; Evictions | Justice Court Clerk for that township or precinct |
| Municipal Courts | City ordinance violations; Misdemeanor traffic tickets issued within city limits; Minor criminal citations by city police | Municipal court clerk for that city |

Frequently asked questions
Is the Nye County Clerk the clerk of the district court?
No. Nye County is one of the Nevada counties where the district court has its own Clerk of the Court. The county clerk's office in Tonopah handles elections, marriage licenses, and county boards, and its website states that it does not handle any court matters. District-court files are kept by the Clerk of the Court at 1520 E. Basin Ave. #108 in Pahrump.
Can I search Nye County court cases online?
Only for Pahrump Justice Court, which participates in the Nevada courts eServices case portal. The Fifth Judicial District Court and the Tonopah and Beatty Justice Courts have no public online case search; contact the clerk by phone or in person.
Where is the Nye County courthouse for a felony or divorce case?
In Pahrump, not Tonopah. The Fifth Judicial District Court's two departments and the Clerk of the Court are at 1520 E. Basin Avenue, Pahrump, NV 89060. The court also serves Esmeralda County.
Which justice court handles a traffic ticket in Nye County?
It depends on where the citation was issued. Tickets from the Pahrump area go to Pahrump Justice Court, tickets from around Tonopah go to Tonopah Justice Court, and tickets from the Beatty area go to Beatty Justice Court. Each court keeps its own docket and accepts online payments through nCourt.
