Jackson County, home to Medford, Ashland, and the rest of the Rogue Valley, is Oregon's sixth most populous county and makes up the 1st Judicial District on its own. Like every Oregon county it has a single Circuit Court, housed in the Justice Building in downtown Medford, and that one court keeps the file for every felony, misdemeanor, divorce, civil suit, probate estate, and guardianship filed in the county. There is no separate district clerk, county court clerk, or probate clerk to track down.

The court's Public Room window on the first floor of the Justice Building is where records are pulled, reviewed, and copied. Newer, digitized cases can be read on the lobby kiosk computers without staff help; older paper files have to be requested at the window. Copy requests can also be submitted through the Oregon Judicial Department's statewide online Records Request Form, and the court's records clerks answer a dedicated case-file email address.

Two things trip people up in Jackson County. First, the court closes to the public every day from noon to 1:00 p.m., so the records window is open only in the morning and afternoon blocks. Second, traffic tickets written by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office or Oregon State Police, and code violations in several smaller cities, go to the county-run Jackson County Justice Court in Central Point, which is not part of the state court system and does not appear in the OJD online search.

Filed documents are not available online to the public. Digitized case documents can be viewed on the kiosk computers in the Justice Building lobby; older cases that were never scanned must be requested at the Public Room window. Full register-of-actions detail is available to OJCIN Online subscribers. Jackson County Justice Court traffic and violation cases are not in either state system.

Which clerk has your record

In Oregon, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Oregon page.
