Oxford County's courts are unusually easy to find: the Oxford County Superior Court, the South Paris District Court, and the county's Probate Office all sit at the same address, 26 Western Avenue in South Paris, and the Superior and District Court clerks even share a phone number. The Superior Court keeps felony criminal, civil, and family cases; the District Court handles misdemeanors, small claims, protection orders, Family Division matters, and traffic infractions. A second District Court in Rumford, on Congress Street, serves the northern River Valley towns.

Oxford County is part of eCourts Region 3 with Androscoggin and Franklin, and its courts converted to electronic filing and the free public re:SearchMaine portal on September 22, 2025 for all case types. That gives Oxford one of the longer online case histories in Maine: the Registry of Actions for criminal, civil, family, and civil-violation cases filed since that date can be viewed after a free registration, and eFiling is mandatory for attorneys, government agencies, and parties filing more than six cases a year. Cases that closed before the conversion remain paper files.

Probate is separate, as everywhere in Maine. Wills, estates, guardianships, adoptions, and name changes are kept by the elected Oxford County Register of Probate, a county office in the same courthouse building but with its own staff and phone line. Probate files never appear in re:SearchMaine.

What is available online

Oxford County (eCourts Region 3) has been live on Maine eCourts since September 22, 2025 for all case types, so the Registry of Actions for criminal, civil, family, juvenile, and civil-violation cases filed in the Superior Court, South Paris District Court, or Rumford District Court since that date is searchable for free on re:SearchMaine after registration. Cases closed before the conversion were not loaded and remain paper files at the courthouse. Most filed documents, as opposed to the docket listing, must still be viewed at a courthouse public terminal. Probate records are kept by the county Register of Probate and are not part of re:SearchMaine; the county's probate page does not describe an online docket, so ask the office directly.

Which clerk has your record

In Maine, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Maine page.

Sealed and restricted records

Maine court records are generally open, but the Judicial Branch's Rules of Electronic Court Systems (MRECS) and Administrative Order JB-20-03 (Public Access and Confidentiality) draw a distinction between "public court information," "confidential" information restricted to parties or courthouse viewing, and records that are fully sealed or impounded by statute, rule, or court order. Maine's Freedom of Access Act does not apply to the judiciary — court records are governed by these Judicial Branch rules, not a public-records request.

The Maine guide lists every category of sealed and restricted record, and our guide to expunging or sealing a criminal record explains how to remove one from public view.
