Scott County, on the southwest edge of the Twin Cities metro, is one of the fastest-growing counties in Minnesota and part of the First Judicial District, which it shares with Dakota, Carver, Goodhue, Le Sueur, McLeod, and Sibley counties. As everywhere in Minnesota, one unified District Court hears civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal, and traffic cases, and the District Court Administrator keeps every file.

Court administration is in the Scott County Justice Center in Shakopee, attached to the county Government Center at 200 Fourth Avenue West; the court administration office is in room JC115. Unlike Dakota County next door, Scott County runs all court business from this one location, so there is no need to work out which service center holds a file. Entry is through weapons screening, and the court posts a dedicated courthouse-safety page describing what is and is not allowed inside.

Scott County's court page links a county-specific Copy Requests page and a First Judicial District transcript-request form, so a request for a copy of a filed document and a request for a hearing transcript follow different paths. Copies come from court administration; transcripts are ordered from the court reporter through the district form.

What is available online

Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) covers Scott County civil, criminal, family, and probate case information statewide, with documents generally available for cases filed on or after July 1, 2015. Domestic abuse, harassment, CHIPS, and serious juvenile-delinquency cases are excluded from MCRO regardless of filing date and must be checked directly with court administration. Scott County case numbers begin with the prefix 70. Most non-confidential hearings are open to the public on a first-come basis during business hours.

Which clerk has your record

In Minnesota, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Minnesota page.
