Nez Perce County, at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers, is anchored by Lewiston and is the administrative seat of Idaho's 2nd Judicial District, which also covers Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, and Lewis counties. As in every Idaho county, the Nez Perce County Clerk/Auditor serves ex officio as Clerk of the District Court, so the file for a felony, a divorce, a probate estate, or a traffic citation is all requested from the same county office rather than from separate district and county clerks.

The clerk's court staff work on the second floor of the Nez Perce County Courthouse, 1230 Main Street, Lewiston, split into a Civil Court desk (divorce, custody, child support, name changes, evictions, small claims, and civil protection orders) and a Criminal Court desk (citations, arraignments, pretrial conferences, no-contact orders, bail, and driver's-license reinstatement). Both share one phone line. The Clerk/Auditor's recording, licensing, and elections functions are on the first floor of the same building.

Case information for Nez Perce County is searchable for free through the statewide iCourt Portal, which the county's District Court page links to for hearings, records, and payments. For copies of documents in a single case, the county directs you to the District Court office; bulk or compiled data requests go to the Idaho Supreme Court's data-request process instead. The Idaho Court Assistance Office also staffs a self-help desk in the courthouse.

What is available online

The iCourt Portal indexes Nez Perce County district and magistrate cases and shows the register of actions, hearing dates, and payment options for most cases entered into the statewide case management system. Document images are not consistently available online, and the county's District Court page directs requests for copies of documents in a single case to the District Court office. Requests for data compiled across many cases are not handled by the county clerk at all; they go through the Idaho Supreme Court's data-request process. Recorded documents held by the Clerk/Auditor on the first floor are a separate system and are not part of the court index.

Which clerk has your record

In Idaho, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Idaho page.

Fees

ItemTypical cost in Idaho
Plain copy$1.00 per page
Certified copy$1.00 per page, plus $1.00 per document for the clerk's certificate and seal

Idaho Code § 31-3201 sets the clerk of the district court's fee for making a copy of any file or record at $1.00 per page (and $0.50 per page for comparing and conforming a copy you prepare yourself). The statute lists a separate certificate-and-seal charge for certifying a copy without printing a fixed amount in the online text; the court records request forms published by Bonneville, Bingham, and Madison counties all state that charge as $1.00 per document. Some counties add a flat request or card-processing fee (Canyon County charges $5 per request), so confirm the total with the clerk before sending payment.
