El Paso County keeps district-court records with the El Paso County District Clerk and misdemeanor, probate, and county civil records with the El Paso County Clerk. Both offices are in the El Paso County Courthouse on East San Antonio Avenue downtown. The county website has a records-search hub that links to the online systems for each office, and the county clerk publishes official public records through a separate application.
El Paso is also home to the El Paso Division of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, so federal cases filed in the city are in PACER, not in either county system.

What is available online
Case summaries and docket entries for district and county courts are searchable online. Document images are limited; most must be requested from the clerk. The county's records-search hub lists each system and what it covers. Older cases are indexed but their documents are typically on paper or microfilm and must be ordered from the clerk that holds the file.
Which clerk has your record
In Texas, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Texas page.
| Court | Typical cases | Records kept by |
|---|---|---|
| District Courts | Felony criminal cases; Divorce, custody, and other family cases; Civil suits with larger amounts in dispute | District Clerk of the county |
| County Courts (constitutional and statutory) | Class A and B misdemeanors; Civil cases with smaller amounts in dispute; Probate and guardianship | County Clerk of the county |
| Justice Courts (justice of the peace) | Class C misdemeanors; Small claims and civil cases up to the justice-court limit; Evictions | Clerk of the individual justice court precinct |
