Richmond County is Staten Island. The Richmond County Clerk, founded in 1683 as the borough's oldest government office, keeps Supreme Court civil filings, land and business records, and historical records including naturalizations from 1907-1960. Current Supreme Court civil case documents filed electronically can be accessed through NYSCEF; the office also offers in-person research at its courthouse location.
As in the rest of New York City, misdemeanors and violations are handled by the Criminal Court of the City of New York, and smaller civil claims and small claims by the Civil Court of the City of New York, both city-wide systems separate from the County Clerk. Family Court and Surrogate's Court on Staten Island keep their own records as well.

What is available online
The County Clerk's own online tools cover land records and business filings; current Supreme Court civil case documents filed electronically are searched through NYSCEF instead. Criminal case status, Family Court, Surrogate's Court, and the city-wide Criminal and Civil Courts are separate systems not covered by the County Clerk's search.
Which clerk has your record
In New York, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the New York page.
