Sullivan County's Superior Court is in the Opera House building at 22 Main Street in Newport. That clerk keeps Superior Court civil and felony criminal records. The Fifth Circuit Court is a separate system of division offices, with District and Family locations in Claremont and Newport and the county's Probate Division in Newport.

Newport District Division uses 55 Main Street, not the Superior Court's 22 Main Street address. Claremont District Division is at 1 Police Court, Suite 2, in the City Hall complex above the police department. A court being located in a city building does not make it a separate municipal court; these are divisions of New Hampshire's Circuit Court.

Public users create an account. Case information online is different from access to the filed documents; non-confidential documents remain available at courthouse public kiosks.

What is available online

LUCIE initially covers electronically filed Superior civil and criminal cases and selected Circuit civil, small-claims, name-change, and estate cases. A public account can show status, hearing dates, parties, and charges or dispositions where available. It is not a complete archive of Sullivan County paper records, and it does not make confidential cases public. If a search misses a known case, contact the relevant division clerk with the approximate filing year. Court kiosks provide access to non-confidential documents that are not available for remote public viewing.

Which clerk has your record

In New Hampshire, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the New Hampshire page.

Sealed and restricted records

New Hampshire court records are presumed open under the common-law right of access and the courts' own rules, but several categories are not public:

The New Hampshire guide lists every category of sealed and restricted record, and our guide to expunging or sealing a criminal record explains how to remove one from public view.

Frequently asked questions

Why might a Merrimack County resident need Newport District Division?

Newport's published District Division jurisdiction includes New London, Wilmot, and Newbury as well as Sullivan County towns. Circuit service areas cross county lines. Follow the official town listing and the division on the case notice, rather than requesting every record from the resident's home county.

Can I download every Sullivan County court document from LUCIE?

No. The public service provides information for specified electronic case types. The Judicial Branch directs public users to courthouse kiosks for non-confidential documents. Ask the clerk about older files or a document absent from the public system.

Where should I request a Sullivan County estate file?

Start with the 5th Circuit Probate Division in Newport. Use the official court directory for its current contact and mailing details. An estate case may have public information in LUCIE, but restricted documents still require the clerk's access review.

What should I include in a mailed copy request?

Identify the court and division, case number if known, the document required, and whether certification is needed. Supply contact and return-delivery details, and confirm payment instructions with that clerk. A general inquiry to the county government may not reach the Judicial Branch office holding the file.
