Cass County, on the southern edge of the Kansas City metro, shares the 17th Judicial Circuit with Johnson County to its east, but each county has its own Circuit Clerk and courthouse. Cass County's clerk is on the first floor of the Cass County Justice Center at 2501 West Mechanic Street in Harrisonville, a building the county finished in 2004; Johnson County cases are filed with a separate clerk in Warrensburg and do not appear in Cass County's files.

The Cass County clerk's page is built around email. Rather than one general inbox, the office publishes a separate courts.mo.gov address for each case type — civil, criminal, domestic, traffic, protection orders, appeals — plus a dedicated Cass.Copies@courts.mo.gov address for records and copy requests, and one address per judicial division for scheduling questions. That makes it one of the easier Missouri counties to deal with remotely once you have a case number.

Case dockets are on Missouri Case.net, and the Case.net help page for the 17th Circuit spells out the cutoff: civil, probate, criminal, and traffic case information is available for public cases that were pending on or filed after June 6, 2005. Judgments entered before that date are not on Case.net unless they were revived later; they have to be looked up in the judgment index at the courthouse in Harrisonville. Electronic case records have been viewable at the courthouse's public access terminal since January 1, 2012.

What is available online

Cass County circuit cases are searchable statewide on Case.net. Per the Case.net help page for the 17th Circuit, civil, probate, criminal, and traffic case information is available for public cases pending as of or filed after June 6, 2005; earlier judgments are not included unless revived and must be checked in the judgment index at the Cass County Justice Center in Harrisonville. Since January 1, 2012, electronic case records have also been viewable at the courthouse's public access terminal. Case.net shows docket entries rather than documents, so copies come from the clerk.

Which clerk has your record

In Missouri, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Missouri page.

Case search. Use Case.net to search Cass County cases by name or case number. Cass County case numbers filed since 2005 follow the statewide format (two-digit year, location code, case-type code, and a sequential number), which the Case.net help page for Circuit 17 explains.

By email. Send records and copy requests to Cass.Copies@courts.mo.gov with the case number, the documents you need, and whether you need certified copies. Questions about a specific case type can go to the matching inbox — Cass.Civil@, Cass.Criminal@, Cass.Domestic@, or Cass.Traffic@courts.mo.gov — and hearing-date questions to the division's own address (cass.div1 through cass.div6@courts.mo.gov). The office will tell you the fee before filling the request; fees are set out in the court-costs and probate-costs documents linked from the clerk's page.

In person. The Circuit Clerk is on the first floor of the Cass County Justice Center, 2501 West Mechanic, Harrisonville, open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bring the case number or party names and an approximate filing year. During winter weather, call the closing line at (816) 380-8511 before making the trip.

By mail or fax. Write to the Circuit Clerk at the Justice Center address above, or fax (816) 380-8195 or (816) 380-8225, with the same details and a phone number or email for a fee quote.

Older cases. Judgments entered before June 6, 2005 are not on Case.net. Ask the clerk to check the judgment index kept in the Circuit Division (or the Probate Division for estate matters) at the Justice Center.

Johnson County cases. Cases from Warrensburg and the rest of Johnson County are filed with the Johnson County Circuit Clerk, even though the two counties share the 17th Circuit's judges.

Fees

ItemTypical cost in Missouri
Plain copySet by local court rule in each circuit (COR 21.01(a)(22)); $1.00 per copied page in probate proceedings statewide. Circuits publish $0.25–$1.00 per page (e.g., St. Charles $0.25; Jasper $1.00; Boone $1.00 first page, $0.10 each additional)
Certified copy$1.50 per seal on a certified or authenticated copy in probate proceedings statewide (COR 21.01(a)(18)); for other case types, set locally — commonly $1.00–$1.50 per certification on top of the copy fee

Missouri court costs are set by the Supreme Court of Missouri under RSMo 488.012 through Court Operating Rule 21.01. That rule fixes copy fees only for probate proceedings ($1 per copied page and $1.50 per seal for a certified or authenticated copy) and otherwise leaves "reasonable fees for postage and per copied page as provided by local court rule," so plain and certified copy fees for civil, criminal, and family cases differ by circuit. Published examples: St. Charles County $0.25 per page plus $1.50 per certification; Jasper County $1.00 per page plus $1.50 for certification and seal; Boone County $1.00 for the first page and $0.10 each additional page plus $1.00 for a certified copy. Confirm the current fee with the circuit clerk before sending payment.
