The Broward County Clerk of the Circuit and County Court is the single office that keeps every trial-court record in the county — felonies and larger civil suits in circuit court, misdemeanors, small claims, and most traffic cases in county court. As in every Florida county, there is no separate county clerk; county_clerk is set to null in this record and the elected Clerk's office is listed as the district_clerk.

Broward's Case Search portal ("Web2") is free and does not require an account to search civil, criminal, family, probate, and traffic cases by name, case number, or citation number. Registered users can go further and purchase electronic certified copies of documents online.

A frequent point of confusion is case-number format: Broward's civil, family, and probate cases use a three- or four-letter prefix (for example a case style code) followed by a two-digit year and a multi-digit sequence, so a search with the wrong prefix or a stray space returns no results even for a real case.

One elected clerk serves both the circuit court and county court in Broward, so there is no separate county clerk office; county_clerk is set to null. The public case-search tool ("Web2") is at https://www.browardclerk.org/Web2.

What is available online

Case Search covers civil, criminal, family, probate, and traffic records, and lets the public browse free of charge without creating an account. Electronic certified copies are purchased through the same portal for cases and documents that are available online. Confidential case types (most family matters involving minors, juvenile, and mental-health cases) do not appear in public search results.

Which clerk has your record

In Florida, the clerk who keeps a file depends on which court heard the case. Check the court name on the case notice, citation, or order, then use the office and coverage details above to identify the record holder. Court names and responsibilities differ by state; a county clerk may not keep court case files. For federal cases, see the PACER guide. The full court structure is on the Florida page.

Sealed and restricted records

Florida court records are presumed open under Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.420, which lists roughly 19 specific categories of information the clerk must keep confidential even within an otherwise public case file (for example Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, and certain victim and minor-witness identifying information). Confidentiality of court records in Florida is governed by this court rule, not by the state's public-records law (Chapter 119), which does not apply to the judicial branch.

The Florida guide lists every category of sealed and restricted record, and our guide to expunging or sealing a criminal record explains how to remove one from public view.

Frequently asked questions

Is Broward County's case search free?

Yes. Case Search is free to use without registering. Purchasing an electronic certified copy of a document does have a fee, charged when you order it online.

Does Broward have a separate district clerk and county clerk?

No. One office, the Clerk of the Circuit and County Court, handles both, so this record lists it as the district_clerk and leaves county_clerk null.

Why does my Broward case search return no results?

Case numbers must match the required format — a case-type prefix, two-digit year, and sequence number with no spaces or extra punctuation. A confidential case type (family cases involving minors, juvenile, mental health) also will not appear in public results.

Can I get a certified copy of a Broward court document online?

Yes, for documents already available in Case Search you can purchase an electronic certified copy directly through the portal. Documents not online require an in-person or mailed request to the Clerk's office.
